Messages from Mother Mary

Earlier this week, I woke up at 1:31am and noticed a light coming from an alcove in my bedroom. I keep a Virgin of Guadalupe candle there. In the darkness, the candle was glowing. Maybe moonlight was hitting it, but it’s nowhere near a window. It felt supernatural. Like the Virgin woke me up to give me a message.

If you’re not familiar with the Virgin of Guadalupe, she’s Mother Mary.

She appeared in 1531 in Mexico at a spring dedicated to Tonantzin, the Earth Mother goddess of the Aztecs.

She appeared to me 500 years later before Russ and I left on our Spirit Journey in 2013. Through an intuitive, she said: “Go in gratitude of the many blessings that have been bestowed upon you. And with the complete knowledge that I am traveling with you. I will not leave your side.”

And she didn’t. I got confirmation of that the following year at the Irish sacred site of Uisneach. An Irish woman introduced herself and said, “You’re connected to Mother Mary. She’s next to you, wearing bright blue.” (That’s the color of Guadalupe’s mantle!)

On our Journey, Mother Mary guided Russ and me to the 13 Indigenous Grandmothers, to the mushroom medicine with Grandmother Julieta (who, like many Mazatecs, adored Guadalupe), and to New Mexico - where her presence is felt everywhere.

The morning after the glowing candle experience, I completed the mantra practice that I’ve been doing for 5+ months. These are mantras for the purification and empowerment of the womb (second) chakra.

This was initially meant to be 101 day mantra practice. Mine ended up being 157 days. Why? Not because I love mantras. The diksha, the rule, is that if you miss a day, you have to start over. After two months of chanting 10 mantras 108 times each every single morning, I skipped 3 of the mantras because I was running late. I forgot to do them when I got home thaevening. So I had to start those 3 all over again.

But here’s something that Mother Mary reminded me of: Life is happening for us, not to us.

One of those 3 mantras was the mantra to connect with Mother Mary’s Holy Womb Chakra. That one is my favorite. There were times when I recited it and was enveloped in the love of Mother Mary and the Divine Mother.

When Mother Mary made her candle glow at night, she was telling me once again to remember the “many blessings that have been bestowed upon me.” The “mistake” of “having to” start the mantras over happened for me, not to me.

Mother Mary is a powerhouse. She’s gathering her troops. She’s calling out to remind us to embrace the sacred feminine alongside the sacred masculine.

If you’d like to know her more deeply, see this blog post where I recommend 2 excellent books. Next Friday, August 15 is the Feast of the Assumption of Mother Mary, when it will be easy to connect with her energy in meditation or ceremony.
