I Got my Butt Kicked by a Cactus

I’m so happy to be writing this blog. It’s been a few weeks…

I got my butt handed to me by a cactus and was laid out for 19 days. While hiking with Russ to the site where we do medicine ceremony, I brushed my backside up against a prickly pear. It wasn’t a big deal. Until 5 days later, when it was.

I developed a hypersensitive, allergic reaction as well as cellulitis - a skin infection requiring antibiotics and steroids. When I finally went to the doctor, she said it was the worst reaction to cactus she’s ever seen!

I believe there are no accidents. And that everything happens FOR us, not TO us.

Of course, I’ve been asking: What was that all about?!

I have 3 takeaways from this healing portal to share. I hope this helps you connect with the bigger picture next time you have an “accident.”

#1 - Fear Severs us from Our Root Chakra

We tend to prioritize the higher chakras, but your root chakra is immensely important. It’s where you plug into Mother Earth and where your life-force enters your body.

The root governs your interaction with the physical world - as well as your vitality, security and your sense of comfort and safety in the body.

Fear severs us from our root chakra and our connection to Mother Earth.

I was deeply in fear the morning of our hike. Irrational fear of crossing the river and being swept away. My homeopath helped me connect the dots to the time in 2013 when I was canyoneering with Russ. I was very, very close to repelling off a cliff to my death. That day, deep in the Utah wilderness, I clawed my way back to safety. But a 42-year-old part of me held deep trauma and lack of safety which needed to be seen and acknowledged. (And the healing can be as simple as that!)

#2 - Ancestral Trauma Flows Down River Until it’s Cleared

I believe every ancestor is encoded in your bones, blood and DNA. Every victory and challenge. Every trauma and gift.

The amazing thing is, when you heal inside your body and DNA, the entire lineage is liberated and you become the descendant who reclaims the lineage treasures.

Something about the cactus barbs - foreign invaders in my body - resonated on a deep ancestral level.

Every time I’d approach my ancestor altar over the past couple weeks, I’d sob. My ancestors told me they were grieving loses of wartime - the songs left unsung. So, I started to sing to them each morning. And now they tell me they will teach me their songs - which feel like a huge gift!

#3 - Ultimately, these Challenges Bring us Closer to Source / God / Creator

I spent a lot of time lying with ice packs on my burning butt and inviting the Light of Mother-Father God into my body. Now that I’m healed, my intention is that this becomes a daily habit (without the ice packs!) The simple truth is, we are all expressions of the Divine. And life is just better & easier when we surrender to Something Greater.

I’m happy to be healthy and supporting clients again! If you’re ready to clear the ancestral or family baggage you’re carrying, I invite you to book a Family Constellation.

If you’d like to go deeper into a 4-month healing container, let’s talk about how my Transformational Program for Women can support you to leave behind all outdated versions of yourself and express the fullness of who you are.
