Why Does Wisdom Have to Come with Wrinkles?
Last week I went back East to visit my in-laws and my Dad. Overall, it was great to love on them.
But it also felt strange to be at my Dad’s house where I last lived at age 18. Now I’m 55 and post menopausal. How did that happen?!
Our culture is not kind (to say the least) to aging women.
Despite Dove soap’s “Real Beauty” ad campaign and others like it, society has not stopped glorifying youth. Most of us are conditioned to view aging with dread.
I must confess, while I’m super excited about who I’m becoming and what lies ahead for our world, I wish I could physically reverse age. Looking 35 forever would be nice.
Logically, this resistance to aging makes no sense. My mom died at age 51 of ovarian cancer. I’ve already lived 4 years longer than she did. I’m grateful for that.
But the programming and the inherited beliefs have nothing to do with logic. It’s in our DNA. Generation upon generation of our female ancestors were taught that their value lies on the surface, rather than in the truth of who they are. We get to change that.

In defense of the Crone
The original Crone archetype was liberated, sovereign, free. She was the keeper of sacred wisdom. The embodiment of an ancient feminine power that has been suppressed for ages.
We all have that energy inside - and menopause helps us access it. Instead of bleeding it out, our creative lifeforce energy gets to be recycled within us - and used for all kinds of expression.
I, for one, am setting the intention to embrace the Crone - to be a wild and true grandmother. And I hope you will too - no matter your age.
The Crone is the antidote to the people pleaser. She speaks her truth, embodies her worth, and knows who she is.
With her help we are unbound, unfiltered, and liberated. We show up fully in our God-given power and we change the world. And our planet needs some major change right about now!
